Living in Southern California has its advantages. The lack of humidity is pleasant (“it’s a dry heat!”) though it creates watering challenges. But the warm days and cool nights also offer us something that most of the United States can only dream about: year-round outdoor entertaining!

Ok, it sounds a little scary when you put it that way. We don’t mean the party lasts all year! We’re saying your patio can host a pleasant evening gathering any night of the year, at least as far as the weather is concerned – we take no responsibility for your company!

Your outdoor living space is the heart of your yard; if you want, you can make it a party, barbeque, or dinner central. It can suit the needs of your particular home, whether that includes a firepit, retaining wall, or outdoor kitchen. But are all those truly patios, and if not, what is the definition?

The definition of a patio is “a paved outdoor area adjoining a house. “But we tend to use the term loosely to count any space you used to entertain. Technically, it should be outside your door and made of concrete to get the p-label.

But what’s more important to you: what you call your space or how you use it?

Because of the fairly basic definition of patio and our even more broad term “outdoor living space,” it can be as straightforward or fabulous as you want it to be. So what do you want from your outdoor living space? Whatever it is, we’re ready to deliver.

Are you looking for peace and simplicity? You’ve got a few options. Naturally, you have the classic concrete pad with a classy simple table and chairs option. An awning?

On the other, if you want to go fully zen, why not consider adding some water features? Water features can include a pond, bird bath, or fountain. One of the nice things about water features is they can drown out the noise surrounding your home, helping you to feel more secluded and peaceful.

For many, you can’t have a gathering without food, and a backyard gathering is nothing without barbeque! So, are you a grill master? Of course, you can purchase barbeque grills at your local hardware or everything store, but you may want something more customized.

Building in a grill is a popular upgrade to patios. But some people want to have other cooking methods at their disposal. That’s why outdoor pizza ovens have gained some steam in recent years.

Of course, you don’t need a kitchen to bring the heat. Many folks like the simplicity of a gathering around a fire. It’s elemental in its appeal and simplicity.

For that, we offer firepits. Fire pits can be gas or wood powered. Although you can buy a simple one, for an upgrade, we can incorporate them into your outdoor living space.

Firepits, too, can be used as cooking tools. Some have special attachments for grilling. But if you would prefer to begin and end with roasting marshmallows, M1 will be happy to design to your specification.

Garden Party

Naturally, you can cook indoors and still entertain outdoors. Or maybe you’re more of a cocktails-with-friends kind of host. Either way, we can set up your outdoor living space with the proper outdoor lighting and seating to make your home party central.

That lighting will ensure that your party ends on your terms rather than when it gets too hard to see.

Finally, when decorating your space with plant life, we have you covered there too. We do landscape installation, including landscape walls, which can make a great backdrop and provide seating! Unlike the retaining walls you may know, they can be stunning and built to be an attraction themselves.
