Tree Care: Break Down

Oct 10, 2022 | Tree Care

M1 got a letter recently. It was from a gentleman named The Lorax who speaks for the trees. He asked us to pass on some information about what they needed since the trees have no tongues, after all.

The Lorax mostly spoke in rhymes, but we’ll present the information more straightforwardly. However, you’ll still get the idea. Here’s how M1 helps you with all your tree care needs.

Tree Planting and Installationtree care in ORANGE COUNTY, CA

All the trees in your yard began life as seeds; a seed is a thing that every tree needs.

You may not have time to wait for a seed to grow. So at M1, we also install trees that have already begun their growth journey.

Tree planting requires more than a deep hole.

First, we survey the area to make sure it’s a spot that will support new tree growth. If not, we will either pick a new place or add amendments to the soil to help the tree grow. Then, M1 further considers how high the tree will grow and how it will affect the rest of your ecosystem.

We also check the ground for utility lines. Again, that is a crucial safety step that you should never skip.

Finally, before planting the tree, we prepare the ground for it. Though digging is part of that, it also involves ensuring the property’s grading will maintain water for the tree and saturating the ground before planting so the roots can immediately access water in the trees’ most vulnerable transplant stage.

Tree Maintenance

Caring for trees takes both heart and brain; here are a few tasks you’ll need to maintain

Two of the most common tree care tasks are trimming and pruning. For many laypeople, the terms are used interchangeably but trimming and pruning have some key distinctions.

What is Tree Trimming?

Trimming a tree is about changing its general shape. Typically trimming is used more for aesthetic reasons, but it also has health benefits for the tree.

When you trim a tree, you clip the outermost ends off branches – like a haircut.

What Is Tree Pruning?

Tree pruning also involves tree clipping, but unlike trimming, pruning’s focus is on removing the dead and unhealthy parts of the tree. For example, we prune off tree branches that are diseased and dead but also look for branches that are likely to be a problem in the future.

One example of a time where it’s valuable to prune branches that are not unhealthy is before the winter. In the winter, snow can weigh down and break limbs, causing more damage than if we removed the limbs more controlled manner.

Why Are Trimming and Pruning Important?

You may think it easy – the tree cutting task, but professionals know vital questions to ask.

Tree trimming and pruning are work for professionals. But, unfortunately, it is easy for an untrained person to accidentally cut too much of a tree or miss something they should prune.

Unfortunately, those oversites can damage your trees and even lead to their deaths.

In addition, tree care can be dangerous if you don’t have the proper equipment and experience, especially for large trees. Besides dealing with heights, it’s easy to get injured by falling branches when you need to predict their trajectory correctly.

What Else Do Trees Need?

Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care.
Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air.

Trees need water and nutrients to grow up healthy. But only some trees need the same nutrients or the same amount of water.

M1 will help you determine the right amount of water for your trees, either set you up with a watering schedule or install an irrigation system to handle the watering.

Trees also need occasional feeding. M1 can test your soil and amend it to make sure your trees have the right food they need to be healthy.

We can also mulch your trees to ensure they retain the water they need, don’t experience soil erosion, and look beautiful all year!
